General Information About Ufuk University

Ufuk University was established by the Turkish Traffic Accidents Assistance Foundation through Law No. 4488, published in the Official Gazette dated December 18, 1999, No. 23910. In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2547 regarding Foundation Higher Education Institutions, and with the authorization of the Council of Higher Education (dated May 1, 2002, No. 13.30.0.EÖB.0.00.00.03.06.05-954/09006), the university officially began its academic activities in the 2002–2003 academic year.

The founding institution, the Turkish Traffic Accidents Assistance Foundation, was established in 1972. Article 3 of the Foundation Charter outlines its purpose as follows: to prevent traffic, occupational, sports, and other accidents as well as disasters and catastrophes; to provide emergency medical and social aid for injuries and illnesses resulting from such events; to offer rehabilitation services; and to collaborate with other institutions to provide education and training by establishing schools, including higher education institutions. The foundation also aims to supply necessary tools and equipment, organize training courses and seminars, and conduct other scientific activities.

The primary motivation for founding the university was to develop preventive, protective, and therapeutic principles and methods addressing socially significant issues such as accidents, disasters, and physical and psychological problems, all within the framework set out in the foundation’s charter. The university also aims to raise public awareness, develop methodologies for health, education, and public services, and guide relationships and interactions between countries, government agencies, and individuals, while training competent and qualified personnel in these areas.

To achieve these objectives, the university includes the Faculties of Medicine, Law, Education, Science and Literature, Economics and Administrative Sciences, as well as supporting units such as the School of Nursing, Vocational School, Vocational School of Health Services, and various graduate institutes—all established by the university’s founding legislation.

At Ufuk University, learning English is a requirement for every student in order to follow studies in their respective fields at a contemporary level and to make use of publications, academic works, and internet resources. Following a one-year preparatory program, students also receive instruction in an additional professional foreign language to better prepare them for their chosen field.

Libraries and computer laboratories are available to support students’ academic needs, including access to digital resources. Furthermore, the university is equipped with tools and systems that enable distance learning and online education.
