General Information About Istanbul Medipol University
Istanbul Medipol University was established by the Medipolitan Education and Health Foundation (currently known as the Turkey Education, Health and Research [TESA] Foundation) through Law No. 5913 on the “Amendment to the Law on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions,” which was published in the Official Gazette dated July 7, 2009, and numbered 27281. With the addition of Article 112 to the Law No. 2809 on the “Organization of Higher Education Institutions” dated March 28, 1983, it acquired the status of a foundation (non-profit private) university and gained public legal entity status.
Istanbul Medipol University aims to offer young individuals new opportunities as a modern, innovative, and productive university that prioritizes health sciences while upholding universal, contemporary, high-quality, and liberal values.
The university carries out its educational activities at its Haliç and Kavacık Campuses. In addition, students fulfill their practical training and internships at Medipol University Hospital.
The Haliç Campus is located on the Golden Horn, on the historical peninsula of Istanbul, surrounded by Byzantine-era walls, near the junction of the Unkapanı Bridge and the mainland. This area historically housed the Zeugma, which was at the heart of commercial life during the Ottoman period and remained active until the 19th century. The area carries the traces of Byzantine heritage and was once a central hub of Ottoman trade. Within this historically rich setting, modern buildings that once served various functions for the state monopoly TEKEL now host a contemporary educational institution—standing as a symbol of the Republic.
The premises were renovated in a short period by the founding foundation, preserving their original character and architectural integrity, and were adapted to meet the university’s needs. Today, in this area that reflects the spirit of the past, science is being produced and modern education is being provided.
The Kavacık Campus, on the other hand, is situated on the Asian side of Istanbul, right at the exit of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, where Europe and Asia meet. The campus houses classrooms, student dormitories, sports facilities, and research laboratories.
