General Information About Konya Food and Agriculture University

Konya Food and Agriculture University was established in Konya under the leadership of the Scientific Research, Technology, Education and Culture Foundation (BARTEK), which was founded in 2010 by Konya Şeker A.Ş., one of Turkey’s major agricultural producers.

With a resolution by the BARTEK Foundation Board of Trustees and in accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, the initiative to establish a university named the Food and Agriculture University in Konya was adopted. Administrative and financial steps were promptly taken, and a series of national and international “search conferences” were held with the participation of expert academics, bureaucrats, and senior executives. Based on the knowledge and insights generated during these meetings, an application was submitted to the Council of Higher Education within the scope of Law No. 2547 on Higher Education and the Regulation on Foundation Higher Education Institutions. The university was officially founded with the enactment of Law No. 6492, published in the Official Gazette on June 18, 2013 (No. 28681).

The university currently comprises 3 faculties, 1 graduate school, and 7 application and research centers. It admitted its first students in the 2016–2017 academic year. Until the 2023–2024 academic year, the university operated with a joint program-based admission model. Starting from the 2023–2024 academic year, a department-based education model was adopted to align more closely with the Turkish higher education system and to provide students with more in-depth expertise in their fields.

As of now, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture offers programs in Software Engineering (Turkish), Computer Engineering (English), and Interior Architecture (Turkish). The Faculty of Social and Human Sciences includes Psychology (Turkish), International Trade and Business (English), and Management Information Systems (English). The Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences offers Plant Production and Technologies (English) and Molecular Biology and Genetics (English).

Although the university was primarily established to fill the specialized gap in Turkey in areas such as food, agriculture, and livestock, its research and educational offerings are not limited to these fields. KFAU also provides advanced undergraduate and graduate programs in disciplines such as software and computer engineering, psychology, international trade, business administration, and architecture, supported by a distinguished academic staff.

The university is supported by the Konya Sugar Beet Growers Cooperative and is located in the heart of a major agricultural industrial complex managed by Konya Şeker A.Ş. and Anadolu Birlik Holding, which includes over forty agricultural and food-related industrial facilities. This ecosystem offers a natural learning environment where students can apply the theoretical knowledge they gain in the classroom to real-world settings.
